Dr. Elizabeth Corday

Alex Kingston joined the cast of prime time NBC hit tv series, ER, in 1997, the fourth season.  She played  Dr. Elizabeth Corday,  a surgeon from England.  Alex Kingston was a regular in the series, appearing in 158 episodes until 2004, season eleven.  In 2009, Alex returned for two episodes, including the final episode And in the End.

Dr. Elizabeth Corday was  involved romantically first with Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) in one of American tv's first interracial relationships.  After their break-up, Elizabeth Corday became involved with Dr. Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards.)  The couple married in season seven, shortly before Elizabeth gave birth to their daughter Ella.  After Mark Green's death in season eight, Elizabeth returned to England for awhile.  She was shown working at St. Thomas hospital and spending time with her parents.  She returned to Chicago with her daughter and went back to the ER.  Over the years on ER, Dr. Corday was a Surgical Trauma Fellow, Surgical Intern, Surgical Attending, Associate Chief and Surgery, and Chief of Surgery.  She often had adversarial encounters with Dr. 'Rocket' Romano and Dr. Kerry Weaver which provided further opportunities for the audience to see her passion and strong character.

In episodes in the final season of ER, we find that Dr. Elizabeth Corday has moved to North Carolina with her daughter.  Her step-daughter Rachel is attending university nearby and hopes to become a doctor.  After re-uniting at an event with other staff members of ER in the final episode, Dr. Benton walks Elizabeth to her car.  For many viewers, Dr. Elizabeth Corday remains one of the strongest female characters in prime time drama.
